Observations and Stakeholders' Views Gathered at the Engagement Activity on ‘Child Protection Harmony Fun Day’

  • Hosting the countdown event at Kowloon Masjid, with attendance of senior government officials and representatives from the Islamic community, emphasised the government’s commitment to enhancing child protection awareness within ethnic minority (EM) communities and stressed the shared responsibility of child protection, which reinforced the moral, professional, and communal duty to act against child abuse.
  • The Fun Day event was a great success in raising public awareness of the Ordinance and promoting child protection within the public and EM community. The activities effectively conveyed the importance of child protection and the reporting regime, especially to EM communities.
  • Continued outreach and education are recommended to enhance community awareness of child protection.
  • Members of the community attending the event were very supportive of the Child Protection Campaign. They appreciated the interactive publicity initiatives for families and children.
  • There was a strong community participation and a genuine commitment to creating a safe, inclusive environment for children. The Fun Day exemplified the power of collaboration across sectors and cultures.
  • The Fun Day marked a significant milestone in the collective efforts to safeguard children’s well-being and successfully fostered cross-cultural engagement, particularly with EM communities, through interactive booths and health check stations.
  • The event was a good start to engage EM communities, as well as an appropriate channel to deliver the important messages of child protection and the Ordinance to them.
  • The Fun Day was successfully held at the Kowloon Masjid and Islamic Centre to promote the 100-day countdown to the Ordinance. The venue was well chosen as it is a signature venue of EM community.
  • The event was well-planned which successfully facilitated the participation of leaders from EM community, thereby further raising their awareness on child protection.
  • Commission on Children (CoC) may consider promoting the child protection message and the Ordinance, apart from Muslims, to other EM communities, such as Nepali and Indian communities.
  • The tour around the Mosque was a great opportunity for the Members to learn more about the community that Kowloon Masjid serves.
  • The Special Call under the Funding Scheme for Children’s Well-being and Development subsidised several promotional and public educational projects, specifically targeting EM communities. CoC might consider strengthening Members’ participation in these projects and enhancing the promotion of the funded projects.
  • The participating families enjoyed the game booths, and the souvenirs were attractive. It would be great if more participants could be invited to enjoy the games at the booths.
